“The deepest and truest black on earth is in the pupil.”
This piece is an exploration of aesthetic, depth and visual texture and how these interact and relate with the body. I have been using animal eyes in my work to explore this notion of “the truest black.” The occult use of wearing animal parts also ties back to primitive cultures utilizing them as a form of identity or talismans with certain powers. With these body-pieces I am attempting to bring that particular notion into our contemporary world and reciprocally bring our contemporary world back to its primitive origins. This piece is now part of the permanent collection at the University of Texas.
